The Story Behind The Name Of The Airstream : Apollo 8

Not your average camper name. It was the same day I brought him home is when he got his name. When me and the fam bam we’re pulling him home. We started talking names. We started pulling up historical events that had happened during 1968 to see if some idea came up(the listing originally said 1967 but we found out it was actually made it 1968). My aunt was reading the history timeline on the phone and we got to Apollo 8. Which was during the peak of space exploration. It was what changed everything, seeing the Moon for the first time and orbiting. Which is what made landing on the moon in 1969 possible. It was also when Airstream had a collaboration with NASA in 1968. The collab created MQF-Mobile Quarantine Facilities. Fitting for this time am I right? Not knowing if anything could be caught while in space, astronauts stayed in MQF after returning to earth for a period of time. They were also located in Houston. And now in 2020 they are bringing the Airstreams back into play by using them for transport to the space station. So in conclusion the PERFECT NAME. I said “yep that’s it” being that I’m an inner space nerd if you can’t tell. The first pic is a press photo I had bought on EBay and am collecting all things Apollo 8. Which will end up being hung in the Airstream. I had the childhood dream of wanting to be an astronaut for the longest time. Which is why I’ll go with the title Airstream Astronaut.
